Blades Police Department provides a competitive compensation package that includes:
Police Officer:
- Salary: Non-Certified- $47,000, $49,000 upon completing the academy, $51,500 after FTO. Certified- rank and salary based upon experience.

Qualifications
Essential Qualifications for the Blades PD Candidates
Prospective applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship: All candidates must be U.S. citizens.
- Age: Applicants must be 21 years old by the time they complete the academy.
- Examinations: A physical fitness test and a written exam must be successfully passed.
- Background Check: A comprehensive background investigation is required.
- Medical and Psychological Assessments: Candidates must pass medical and psychological evaluations to ensure they are fit for duty.
- MUST BE PRIOR MILITARY WITH AT LEAST 180 CONSECUTIVE DAYS OF ACTIVE SERVICE IN ANY BRANCH OF MILITARY (INCLUDING RESERVES).
Chief of Police Position:
- Ten (10) years of experience as a police officer or more and 3 years of progressive experience in police administration.
- Must have a good reputation and character and pass a rigorous background check.
- Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work closely with elected officers, municipal administrator , staff and fellow officers.
- Candidate must be community oriented and lead by example.
- Currently hold, or be able to obtain, certifrication by Delaware Police Officers Standards and Training (POSST) withing 6 months of being hired.
- Candidate must possess and enhance a working knowledge and experience in the following areas; Leadership Skills, Patrol Procedures, Criminal and Traffic Investigations, Case Management, Scheduling, Budgeting, Police Officer’s bill of Rights and Discipline, Development of Policeies and Procedures, Grant Composition.
- Stron Oral and Written communication Skills
- Able to effectively produce and implement police operational plans for major events, police strategies, methodologies and tatics.
